Fresh Breathe Without the Weird Chemicals
Let’s be real—most store-bought toothpaste is packed with stuff we can’t even pronounce. Fluoride, sulfates, artificial sweeteners…and why is there blue dye? For the aesthetics..?
Long before Colgate toothpaste, natural ingredients like clay, neem, and clove were the go-to for strong teeth and healthy gums. We’re gonna take it back to our roots and make a simple, all-natural, toothpaste that actually does what it’s supposed to—clean, protect, and restore your teeth’s natural strength!
This DIY herbal toothpaste is easy to make, super effective, and—bonus—it won’t leave you questioning what’s in your mouth. And if you want extra whitening power, we’ve got an optional ingredient for that too! Let’s get into it.

What’s in It & Why It Works
Baking Soda – Balances pH, freshens breath, and gently scrubs away stains.
Bentonite Clay – Detoxifies, polishes, and gives your teeth a healthy dose of minerals.
Neem Powder – The OG antibacterial herb. Fights cavities, soothes gums, and keeps bad bacteria in check.
Clove Powder – Basically nature’s mouthwash. It’s anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and helps with gum health.
Cinnamon Powder – Keeps your breath fresh and your mouth bacteria-free (and tastes amazing).
Coconut Oil – Antibacterial, moisturizing, and gives the toothpaste a smooth texture.
Peppermint Essential Oil – Because nobody wants their toothpaste tasting like dirt. It freshens breath and adds a cooling effect.
Activated Charcoal (Optional) – Want whiter teeth? Add a teaspoon of activated charcoal to naturally lift stains and brighten your smile. Just know it can get a little messy, so maybe don’t brush in your favorite outfit!
Ingredients:
• 2 tbsp Baking Soda
• 2 tbsp Bentonite Clay
• 1 tsp Neem Powder
• 1 tsp Clove Powder
• 1 tsp Cinnamon Powder
• 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
• 8-10 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
• 1 tsp Activated Charcoal (Optional for whitening)
Instructions:
1. In a non-metal bowl (because bentonite clay and metal don’t vibe well together), mix the baking soda, bentonite clay, neem, clove, cinnamon, and activated charcoal (if using) until combined. (The powder can be used alone! Continue to next steps for a more tooth paste like consistency)
2. Add the coconut oil and stir until it forms a paste.
3. Mix in the peppermint essential oil, making sure everything is blended evenly.
4. If it feels too thick, add a little filtered water until you get the consistency you like.
5. Store in a small glass jar with a lid. Boom—your new favorite toothpaste is ready to go!

How to Use:
• Scoop a little onto your toothbrush and brush as usual.
• Use daily for a fresh, clean, and naturally remineralized smile.
• If using activated charcoal, expect a little black foam—it’s normal, and it rinses right out!
Why You’ll Love It
• No weird chemicals or toxins – Just pure, natural goodness.
• Actually remineralizes your teeth – Because enamel repair is real.
• Super affordable – One batch lasts forever.
• Charcoal option for whitening – Get that natural glow-up without harsh bleaching agents.
A Quick Disclaimer Before You Brush!
As always, natural doesn’t mean risk-free—so here are a few things to keep in mind!
• Neem powder should not be ingested by pregnant women. If you’re expecting, it’s best to skip any neem-based oral products. No worries, The toothpaste works just great if you take it out mama!
• Coconut oil should always be spit into the trash, not the sink. It can harden in pipes over time and cause clogs—your plumbing will thank you!
• Avoid metal! Both utensils and fillings. Bentonite clay may affect metal dental fillings. If you have any, you might want to use clay-based products with caution, or choose another detoxifying ingredient instead.
